Dimitrios P. Bogdanos

Professor Dimitrios P. Bogdanos, MBA, PhD, MD is a Professor of Medicine and Autoimmune Diseases at the University of Thessaly, Larissa, Greece. Professor Bogdanos is the Head of the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Sciences. He is the Chairman and Director of the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, and the Director of In-patient and Out-Patient Clinics of Rheumatology, University Hospital of Larissa in Central Greece. Professor Bogdanos is also the Co-Chairman of the Research and Ethics Committee of the University Hospital of Larissa. He has been specialized in Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology specialist in London (University College London Medical School and King’s College Hospital, UK). He has obtained his MD in Greece (1998), an MBA (Berlin) and his PhD in Immunology and Immunopathology (University of London, 2005). He is chairing and co-chairing several committees and sub-committees of the University, the Hospital and the School of Health Sciences. He is the recipient of more than 35 prizes, awards and distinctions for his clinical and research work. Amongst them, the most influential were those of the Higher Education Funding Council of England (2005), the Dame Sheila Sherlock Medal, BASL, UK (2004), the Sir Yule Bogue Prize (London 2001). His research is focused in three field: the role of molecular mimicry and immunological cross-reactivity in the induction of autoimmunity; the identification of novel autoantigens and biomarkers in immune-mediated diseases; and, the interplay between the microbiome and the clinical and translational advances in immunonutrition. He has published over 500 pee-reviewed papers in International journals and chapter in books (h-index: 66; citations>13,000). He is a Member of Medical and Immunological Societies and a Fill Member of the World Academy of Sciences. He is Editor, Co-Editor of Member of the Editorial Board of 25 Journals. He attracted grants  from Prestigious Grand Giving Bodies from all over the world to support his research activities (over-exceeding 20 million euros). Prof Bogdanos is the Co-ordinator of Principal Investigator of several national and international academia-industry and Research Consortia in the field of Immunology. He is participating actively in more than 30 clinical trials of therapeutic drugs for autoimmune and rheumatic diseases. Professor Bogdanos is the Founder and Chairman of the International Polythematic Congress of Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Autoimmune Diseases.
